So I thought and thought about what to do with my teeny tiny onions and decided to dehydrate them and make them into Homemade Onion Powder.

Google informed me it was easy peasy. So to work I went slicing all the onions very thinly (and cried and cried) then dehydrated them in my dehydrator. If you don't have a dehydrator you can dry them in the oven (heat the oven to your lowest setting and dry until crisp and dry). My dehydrator is a dinosaur so it took 6 hours for the very thin onions to dry.
You will want to make sure they are completely bone dry before putting them into a food processor and grinding up into a fine powder. DO NOT open the food processor right away just let it sit for 5 minutes or else you are going to have a huge mess of onion powder all over you and the counter and floor (not that I would know from experience).
This Homemade Onion Powder is really tasty! It is a bit sweet, and much more flavorful than the store bought variety. I hope you will make your own and enjoy it.
Homemade Onion Powder

Ingredients
- Onions (sliced thinly)
Instructions
- Clean and slice onions as thin as possible. If using the oven method preheat oven to the lowest setting.
- Place on dehydrator tray or baking sheet if using the oven.
- Dry until there is absolutely no moisture left in them. In a dehydrator this took 6 hours, but in the oven it could take up to 12 hours.
- Once the onions are completely dehydrated place in food processor and process until you have a fine powder. (DO NOT open processor right away.)
- Store in an airtight container and enjoy!
