Whew! Just finished looking over our family calendar for the next few months and penciling in the dates for upcoming camping trips. We're relatively new to the world of RVing. Last fall we purchased a new to us 37′ motor home. Springtime has finally arrived, we're busy plotting out our future trips. We just returned from our first trip in our motor hone and now we can't wait to hit the road again on many more adventures.
We did not bring our dog Wookie on the trip we just returned from. It was spring break and we traveled to a theme park destination. Knowing that we'd be away from our motor home much of the day, we didn't think it would be a great trip for her. Wookie has traveled with us in the past on previous camping trips and she's quite content with some basic prep work. Just as you would prep for a trip when taking children, traveling with a dog has its own special considerations.

Today I'm sharing with you 10 Tips for RV Travel with Dogs. I'm by no means an expert and some of these tips may not work for everyone, they are just suggestions that have helped us when traveling with Wookie.

10 Tips for RV Travel with Dogs

    • Bring copies of your dogshealth information (vaccination record, surgeries, allergies etc).
    • Take a picture of your dog and keep it on your cell phone. Hopefully you will never need this, but it can come in handy if your dog runs away while you are traveling.
    • Towels, bring plenty of them just for your dog. Unfortunately dogs can get sick when traveling. They are also wonderful for wiping down wet & muddy dogs.
    • Toys!!! Bring your dogs favorites and a couple backups just in case one gets stuck under a bed or a couch.
    • Poop bags and lots of them, enough said!
    • Pet-safe cleaning products. Accidents happen even on vacation and clean-up needs to happen, safely.
    • Food that your dog normally eats at home and extra just in case. PS-Don't leave the food outside, you are camping and you wouldn't want insects or critters getting into the food.
    • Map out your stops, know if there's going to be a long stretch of highway. You'll want to plan accordingly.
    • Research campgrounds carefully. Most allow dogs, but some do not. Some campgrounds only allow dogs in certain areas, limiting available sites. Be prepared to pay extra for bringing your dog too, most charge a small fee.
    • Make short trial runs with your dog in your RV before hitting the road on a long trip. Get them comfortable with their surroundings before setting out into unfamiliar territory.

</p> All of these tips are good reminders before packing up for a camping trip. Part of my prep work before our trips is hitting my local Kroger store and loading up on essentials. I usually have a large detailed shopping list including beverages, snacks, breakfast foods and Purina Beyond for Wookie. So convenient to just pop a bag into the cart while I'm picking up our trip essentials.

I enjoy feeding Wookie Purina Beyond because its grain free, the #1 ingredient is real meat, poultry or fish and it contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. All of these reasons leave me feeling good about what  I'm putting into my dogs body. Purina Beyond uses safely sourced ingredients too. Every bag. Every time.

During the month of April shoppers will be able to grab an exclusive digital coupon for $3 off any Purina Beyond dry dog food online at Kroger. What a great Kroger offer! Now I'd love to hear where your travel plans are taking you this summer, especially if you are bringing along your dog. Share in the comments below! Happy travels.
