0sharesWe do not get a lot of snow here. I miss it! I miss it for my kids! Growing up in Michigan I spent the summers riding bikes and swimming. In the winter we were sledding or just plain old running around like crazy kids in the snow. I can't send my kids out to play in the cold, windy, rainy weather that we get most in the winter so I am left searching for ideas of what to do besides becoming couch potatoes in the winter. Here's some of my ideas and hopefully you can gain some inspiration from me (and if you have any suggestions - let me know!)
- I'm totally going to rip off Katie and do her art project with cups and markers! What a great idea - my kids will love it.
- Bake with my boys. Doesn't have to be super sugar for my kids to get a kick out of it. They love helping me bake banana bread or whole grain bread. Doesn't matter.
- Go to a museum. I try not to make all of my "lets do" activities about spending money, but we LOVE museums. I took them to the Philadelphia Art Museum last year and they loved it (seriously 3 boys!). They have a room filled with knights in shining armor! And going to the Art Museum was WAY cheaper than going to a children's museum. I think we'll be going again.
- Go Swimming. We have a rec pool here that you can go to for $5. Just something different to do in the winter.
- I am going to try a scavenger type hunt in our house. I have never done it before, but going to figure some things out.
- Go to the library. We usually do this in the summer when we can walk down there, but why not in the winter? My 2 older boys go through school to their library, but I think they'd like a trip to the real library too. I need to check into their programs too they might have something fun going on.
- Have a party. Yup be silly. We got a Karaoke machine for Christmas (Thanks to my Brother and Sister-in-law) and we are going to have a singing party for sure. Don't have a Karaoke machine? Have a dance party. Just be silly. Have a fancy snack. Stuck in the house but living different.
- Have a game night. 2 of my boys would be VERY into it 1 not so much. Obviously it depends on the age of the kids of what you play. Have them help plan it. Get out the popcorn.
- Challenge them to their favorite video game. Yes, couch potato-ish but come on it's winter 🙂 Get them moving playing a wii fit game, or a Connect game.
- When all else fails, have a good old fashioned pajama wearing, favorite movie watching kind of day. Sometimes it's just the right thing to do. Hot Cocoa and all.
Hope this helps you keep your winter busy. I know I'm putting my list on the fridge and scheduling some of it for the rest of the month!
And here's to hoping for a nice snow storm to play in!
