Slow Cooker Dessert Applesauce is a sweet delicious treat. Make to eat that day or freeze it for a special occasion. Great with a dollop of ice cream!
Slow Cooker Dessert Applesauce is definitely a sweet delicious dessert treat! I usually try to bring some healthy into my applesauce as a "freeze it and give it" to my kids in the winter. My grandma always made an applesauce similar to this (although she did hers on the stove not the slow cooker). We always ate Grandma's applesauce with our big family meals and I completely remember eating it on top of vanilla ice cream! YUM! My recipe may be a bit different than Grandma's - only because I asked her once for her recipe and she laughed and said "there is no recipe." 🙂
I decided to try making the Dessert Applesauce in the Slow Cooker because, well, why not? You know that we love our slow cookers at Who Needs a Cape? and this seemed like a great idea to me! As a note, you will need a decent sized slow cooker - like 6 quarts or above. Apples cook down so much that you really need a good 20 apples in there and I don't think a smaller slow cooker would have room.
The bonus? Your house will smell amazing all day!

Slow Cooker Dessert Applesauce
Ingredients
- 20 Apples cored and cut into chunks
- 1/2 C brown sugar
- 1 C white sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Place apples in slow cooker
- Top apples with sugars and cinnamon
- Let cook - on low - for about 2 hours before stirring
- Let cook (stirring occasionally) until apples are tender (about another 4 hours)
- Mash or blend (mash for chunky, use an immersion blender to get it more smooth)
- Store in fridge for a week or freeze
